It is an oversimplification to say that ‘Calendar’ consists of 12 ceramic fish bowls – complete with ceramic fish – that were inspired by the seasonal changes and transformations of the actual fish ponds in Jim Thomson’s back yard. In fact, Jim Thomson’s ‘Calendar’ is not only an exquisitely beautiful ceramic rendition of the concepts that we associate with the passage of time. Neither is it only a record of Thomson’s skillful means of translating philosophical curiosity into aesthetically pleasing pieces of ceramic art.
