After
all, the clear light by which we actually see is itself invisible. We
say ‘we see’ when we mean ‘we understand’, as
though we do believe that knowledge and understanding are indeed ‘insights’
and a vital part of human experience. So when we say ‘we see’,
we imply that we actually do experience what has been translated through
nature. When art is successful, it is like a mirror that reflects both
the natural reality of the object and our consciousness of our seeing/experience
as part of it all. Thomson refers to the individual fish ponds/vessels/pots
as ‘the month of the raspberries’ or ‘the month of the
first snow storm’ or ‘the month of spring’. Each vessel/month
– what is a month after all but a vessel for time, and obviously,
