Thomson
admits that at first, he was a little alarmed to see, first the fish ponds,
then the bowls as well, suddenly vanish. But as his back garden experiments
in time/space changes continued to produce vanishing vessel, he came to
realize that indeed, the vanishing acts were in fact what the Japanese
potters had been on about, for centuries. The natural reality of the backyard
where the fishponds disappeared and then reappeared in other forms was
no different than the natural reality that happened in his studio. Thomson
is now indulging a little in the amusing fact that the kiln gods did cooperate
with the cosmic tickers to create just the right kind of illusions appropriate
to the idea for a ceramic calendar...Janis
